Officers are encouraging motorists to ensure that they lock their doors and shut all windows and sunroofs when they park their vehicles, even if it is only for a short period of time.
Motorists should also:
* Not leave any items on display, even if you think they are worthless—a thief will break a window to steal a bag before they check its contents!
* Not leave any loose change lying about inside the vehicle!
* Remove sat nav units, including the mounting bracket and any suction pad marks, so thieves will be unaware that you own one!
Homeowners are advised to make sure all doors are locked, even when you are at home and make sure you close all windows when you are out of the room for any period of time. If you see anyone or anything suspicious please contact the police on 0845 1135000 or in an emergency dial 999.
