HHRA to Disband

Dear Villager
It is with regret I have to inform you of the likely demise of your local residents association. This is due to lack of volunteer committee members leading to a lack of volunteers for the 4 positions of officers of the committee.
The current 3 officers of the committee (Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) will be standing down at this year’s AGM and it seems unlikely that anyone will step forward to take on these roles.
Over the past few years the HHRA has continued to function with dwindling numbers, and a perceived dwindling of public interest, and will continue to function until the AGM on June 10th 2010, 8pm, Hockley Heath Pavilion, where unless new ideas for it's direction and fresh recruits are identified, it will close.
All funds and functions will be integrated into the Parish Council or ceased.
Yours Sincerely,
Stu Barbour (Chairperson)
Joyce Duffield (Secretary)
Annie Rayson (Treasurer)
4th May 2010.

Response from current HHRA question about time commitment

There are the meetings obviously 1 a month for 2 hours. Then for chair I would say it is up to you, probably need half an hour to prepare for meeting, but whether you take actions or not is up to you. Treasurer, probably the same and then an extra 3hours a year to deal with audit (by a upstanding member of the community). Secretary prob an hour between meetings to type up and distribute. Actual details are very much up for agreement .

Request for information about jobs on the HHRA and what they entail

I have received a request for information about the roles undertaken by members of the HHRA. I have had the following response from one member: Simplistically, the chairperson chairs the meeting and represents/enacts views/decisions of the committee, Treasurer acts as financial officer and maintains the accounts of the association and secretary takes and publishes the minutes the meetings. From the point of view of the mandate of the association itself, that is largely up for discussion, and has been since last summer, but I have the words below that were agreed by the committee in a draft constitution. "To safeguard and promote the interest of residents in the area on matters concerning the village environment. To help to improve living conditions, community facilities and services for residents living in the group's area. In order to do this we are committed to representing the views of residents in our area of operation." Keep in mind that it is all voluntary and open to adaption, only being subject to the opinions of the committee members and a few vague guidelines on similar public bodies like this.

This is sad news

I was very sad to hear that the efforts of the Resident's Association have continued to receive so little general support. Surely there must be some more people in our community who are willing and able to play some role here? It would be very sad if the events which HHRA has been central in organinsing such as the Village Fete and the Bonfire Night ceased to happen - they are the main events that bring larger numbers of our community together and I have certainly enjoyed them over the years that I have lived in Hockley Heath.
