Vandals Strike Hockley Heath in Bloom

Hockley Heath Garden Club are celebrating 10 years of planting flowers around the village of Hockley Heath yet vandals strike again uprooting and damaging plants.

We have an assortment of around 50 planters, tubs and hanging baskets that we plant up every summer – including 200 red geraniums along a long stretch of the Stratford Road and over the years we have won many prizes for our Community Efforts; including the prestigious ‘Rugby Cement Prize’ where Hockley Heath will forever be engraved on the silver bowl that was presented and held for a year!

We have supported the borough throughout with the Britain in Bloom competitions and have entered the village into the large village category; which led to our Silver Award.

We have to raise over £1,200.00.each year from various sources including the local community, groups and organizations etc., and we are happy to organize our Christmas illuminations with carols, mince pies and sherry for the villages.

However, last week has been very sad - as again (this has happened over a dozen times, one way or another) we have been vandalised by mindless thugs who enter the village and cause havoc by pulling out all the plants from our containers and throwing them into the road, they obviously think it’s amusing fun but for us it is very disheartening when we have worked so hard to make our village brighter.

We would normally ask for more supporters or donations but I think we would now like to ask the community to help us to identify these vandals whom we do believe maybe from outside the village?

Do you know who was responsible?
