PUBLIC NOTICE NAG’S HEAD PUBLIC HOUSE, STRATFORD ROAD, HOCKLEY HEATH

The Hanover Housing Group (http://www.hanover.org.uk/) is developing proposals to redevelop the Nag’s Head site to deliver a quality housing development for older people.

Hanover is a registered social landlord (housing association) and an exempt charity. Since 1963, when Hanover was founded, they have become one of the UK’s leading specialist providers of retirement housing and related services.
Hanover has been working on its plans for the Nag’s Head site and, in accordance with good practice and due consideration for local residents, businesses and other interested parties, now wish to seek your views before proceeding with the submission of a planning application to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council
The proposed redevelopment scheme looks to provide approximately 30 new homes for older people, with the key elements including:

  • spacious, high quality homes in an attractive village location
  • Have a minimum of 2 bedrooms
  • Have good storage provision (internally and externally)
  • Personal outdoor space
  • Environmentally sustainable
  • A building that allow residents to engage with neighbours and the local community so that isolation is avoided
  • Providing support services that are adaptable to the changing needs of residents so that they can exercise choice and control
  • Efficient to run, manage and maintain
  • Offer high levels of security and comfort
  • Contribute positively to their neighbourhood
  • Providing a choice of tenure

Hanover is holding an informal open afternoon/evening on Thursday 16 September 2010 (1.30pm-6.30pm) at The Pavilion, Hockley Heath Recreation Ground, Old Warwick Road, Hockley Heath, B94 6HH when the plans will be available for inspection. Myself and members of the Hanover team will be in attendance to explain the scheme and to answer questions.
In addition, please do feel free to send me any comments you may wish to make to my email address at the foot of this letter.

Nags Head Development

Although I agree the Nags Head does need some kind of attention this proposed development is not suitable for the location or our village. 30 homes with just 17 car parking spaces !..where are the other 13 residents or their visitors expected to park...I expect local streets will suddenly become inundated with unknown cars parking outside residents homes. Another concern is for the cars that visit the local shops. There is just enough room for 3/4 cars outside One Stop, at the moment the Nags Head car park is used by customers visiting the Hair Dressers, One Stop and Jolokia if they are unable to do this then the local business are going to loose their much needed customers or we are going to end up with cars parking anywhere along that stretch of road causing a hazard to pedestrians and other road users. There have already been 2 serious accidents ouside the Nags Head in the last 8 months...we do not want anymore. Finally I think the development is way too big and the design is not in keeping with our village...why cant someone come along and redevelop it by leaving the shell and putting flats inside, that could be priced for some of the younger generation of the village who would like to stay here instead of having move miles away to get their first home!
